Metal IQ
Built for Shopify stores

You give us two numbers. We price the whole piece.

Weigh one piece in one metal, tell us the stone carats — MetalIQ works out every metal, every stone size and every length on that product, from today's rate.

Gold moves every morning, and every price on that piece moves with it.

One weighing, every metal
Weigh it in 18K and MetalIQ works out 9K, 10K, 14K, silver and platinum for you.
Every combination on the product
Each metal, each centre-stone size, each length is priced separately — a single rate change moves hundreds of prices in one run.
Nothing is written until you look at it
Every new price sits beside the old one first, big jumps are held, and any run can be undone.
The problem

One design is not one price

The same pendant in six metals, at four centre-stone sizes, on three chain lengths is seventy-two prices — for one product. Re-keying them by hand is not a job anyone finishes before the rate moves again.

So the prices sit still. When gold rises you sell at yesterday's rate and lose the margin. When it falls you sit above the market and lose the sale.

Illustrative — one pendant you sell

Metals you offer it in 6
Centre-stone sizes × 4
Chain lengths × 3
Prices on that one product {{ count72 }}

One move in the gold rate changes all seventy-two. You entered one weight and one carat figure. This arithmetic is an example, not a measurement of your store.

Try the arithmetic

Move the rate. Watch the prices answer.

Five example pieces, priced from one 24K rate. Change the rate, the making charge or the safety limit and see what MetalIQ would put in front of you before anything is written.

Update store In the app this is the only step that writes. Held rows wait for you.
Nothing was written anywhere — this is an example on a website. In the app, the held rows would still be waiting for your approval, and the whole run could be undone.

Three steps

The whole app, in the order you use it

1

Set your rates

Today's 24K gold, silver and platinum. Your touch per karat, your making charges, your diamond and gemstone rates. Entered once, changed in seconds.

2

Answer a few questions per piece

Weigh one piece in one metal and the rest are derived. Melee carats, centre stones by size, chain length, sold as a pair. Once per product, not once per day.

3

Check, then update

Every new price beside the old one. Jumps past your safety limit are held. Update everything in the run, or only the products you pick.

Walk through all three steps in detail

Centre-stone sizes

Selling the same design in several centre-stone sizes?

MetalIQ prices every size for you. You build the size choice in Shopify the way you always have — one variant per size — and MetalIQ finds it by name and prices each size from its own carat band on your rate sheet. It even adds the extra gold a larger centre needs, once you have told it which centre was in the piece when you weighed it.

Your customers keep using your theme's normal selector. MetalIQ makes sure the price behind every option is right, every morning.

Set up once: two things must be true for MetalIQ to see your centre-size option. The option name must contain Carat, Diamond Weight or Diamond Size, and each value must start with the carat number1.00 ct, not 6.5 mm and not “Half carat”.

Halo ring — your size option Diamond Size
0.50 ct band 0.50–0.99 · 3.45 g of 18K $1,254
1.00 ct band 1.00–1.49 · 3.68 g of 18K $1,731
1.50 ct band 1.50–1.99 · 3.94 g of 18K $2,268
Each size takes its own carat band, and the extra gold a larger centre needs. Example figures

The shapes MetalIQ already knows how to price

Five ways jewellery is actually sold. Find yours, and you can see what you would have to tell the app.

01

Set stone, one size

You tell it the metal weight, the centre carats, any melee.

It prices every metal, from one weighing.

02

Centre stone the customer chooses

You tell it the metal weight, and which centre was in the piece when you weighed it.

It prices each size from its own carat band, and adds the extra gold a bigger centre needs.

03

Bracelet in several lengths

You tell it the weight, and which length you weighed.

It prices every other length scaled from it — metal and stones together.

04

Pendant on its own

You tell it the pendant's weight and stones.

It prices every metal, and a “Pendant Only” option correctly leaves the chain out.

05

Pendant with a chain, several chain lengths

You tell it the pendant weight, the chain's own weight, and the length each was measured at.

It prices the pendant plus the chain, the chain scaling by its own length.

Not sure which one you are?

Send us one product link and we will tell you exactly what MetalIQ would ask you for.

Ask about your catalogue

Ring-size variants are handled as-is: each size takes the price MetalIQ works out for its metal. See all five in full

The safety story

Nothing changes without you

Letting software touch your prices is the hardest part of this idea. So the app is built the other way round: it calculates freely, and it writes only on your word.

Every price previewed

Old price and new price, side by side, for every variant in the run. You read the list before it exists in your store.

Big jumps are held

You choose the limit — 10%, 25%, 50%, or no holds at all. Anything past it is set aside for your approval instead of written.

Undo, exactly

Every run is recorded. Roll one back and your prices return to precisely what they were before it ran.

Held for your approval 2 variants Example
Halo ring — 18K, 1.50 ct natural Would move 41% — past your 25% limit
Wide band — platinum, no stones Missing weight — cannot be priced yet
Built for the trade

It already knows how you cost a piece

Generic pricing tools ask for a percentage. Jewellery does not work that way, and the difference is where the money is.

Touch, not karat ÷ 24

You enter a purity per karat — 9K, 10K, 14K, 18K — because your 18K is your 18K, and the arithmetic follows your figure, not a textbook one.

Melee apart from the centre

Small stones price on a flat per-carat rate. The centre prices by carat size band. Grade adjustments touch the centre and large stones, never the melee.

Lab, moissanite and natural, separately

Each stone type carries its own rates, because lab and natural differ by roughly tenfold and one rate for both is wrong for both.

Chain length that scales

Record the length the weight was taken at and the chain's own weight. Other lengths scale from it, and “pendant only” correctly leaves the chain out.

Earrings sold as a pair

Enter one earring. Both are priced. No doubling by hand, no forgetting to double.

One weight, every metal

Weigh the piece once. The weight in every other metal is derived, and you can correct any of them by hand when the bench says otherwise.

Privacy of your cost model

Your cost model stays yours

If you switch on the storefront display, your shoppers see finished figures — metal, making, stones, total. That is all the storefront ever receives.

Your rate sheet, your touch percentages, your markups and your stone rates stay inside the app. They are never sent to the theme, so they cannot be read from a browser.

See what the storefront shows

Leaves the app

Metal value, making charge, stones, total — the same numbers a customer can already add up from your product page.

Never leaves the app

Rate sheet, touch per karat, making percentages, stone rates, grade adjustments, category markups, price floors.

Put your rate sheet in once. Price every combination every morning.

MetalIQ is not on the Shopify App Store yet. Tell us about your store and we will get you on early access.

How it works

Three steps, and only the last one touches your store

Step one and two you do once. Step three you do whenever the rate moves — and it always shows you the whole list before it writes a single price.

1

Set your rates

One screen holds your whole cost model. The 24K gold rate you paid today, and the purity you actually work to at each karat — your 18K, not karat divided by 24. Making charge as a percentage on gold; on silver and platinum, flat per gram or a percentage, whichever your books use.

Enter rates per gram or per troy ounce, in any of several currencies. What gets stored never changes — only what you type and what you read.

Stones sit beside them: lab-grown, moissanite and natural priced separately, the centre stone by carat size band, melee on a flat per-carat rate, and coloured gemstones on their own rate. Clarity, cut and colour grades can add or subtract a percentage — on the centre and large stones only, never on melee.

Before you save, preview impact tells you how many prices would move and which products move most.

2

Answer a few questions per piece

This is the work, and you only do it once per product. Weigh one piece in one metal. MetalIQ derives the weight in every other metal you offer, and you can correct any of them by hand when the bench tells you otherwise.

Then the stones: melee total carats, coloured gemstone carats, and large stones priced individually by size — each able to carry its own clarity, cut and colour. For chains, record the length the weight was taken at and the chain's own weight; other lengths scale from it, and “pendant only” leaves the chain out. Earrings sold as a pair are entered once and priced for both.

Exceptions are per product too: a markup override, and a was-price percentage. If you would rather work in a spreadsheet, export the answers as CSV, fill them in, and import them back.

Check, then update

This is the moment that matters. Every new price is shown next to the old one — the whole run, on one screen, before anything reaches your store. You read it the way you would read a costing sheet, and then you decide.

Anything that jumps past the safety limit you chose — 10%, 25%, 50%, or no holds — is held for your approval instead of written. Update everything in the run, or tick only the products you want.

Re-price when a product is edited

Change a product's weight or its stones and the price follows within about half a minute. Your safety limit still applies, so a large jump is still held.

Pick and choose

Run it over everything the run covers when the rate moves, or select a handful of products — a new collection, one supplier's pieces, the window display.

And if you ever need to undo it

Every run is recorded. Every run can be rolled back.

If a rate was mistyped or a stone rate was out of date, you do not need to remember what the prices were. Open the run history, roll the run back, and every price returns to exactly what it was before it ran.

Features

Everything MetalIQ does, and why it matters at the counter

Four groups: the rate sheet, the answers you give per product, how the store gets updated, and what your shoppers can see.

The rate sheet

Gold, by karat, at your touch

One 24K rate and a making charge, then the purity you actually work to at 9K, 10K, 14K and 18K. Your costing figures, not a textbook division.

Silver and platinum, either way round

Rate, touch and making for both — and making can be a flat charge per gram or a percentage of metal value, whichever matches your books.

Any currency, gram or troy ounce

Read the rate the way your supplier quotes it, wherever you trade. What is stored never changes — only what you type and see.

Lab-grown, moissanite and natural, priced apart

Each stone type keeps its own rates. Lab and natural differ by roughly tenfold, so one rate for both would be wrong for both.

Centre by size band, melee flat

You define the carat bands the centre stone prices from. Small stones run on a flat per-carat rate, the way you buy them.

Coloured gemstones on their own rate

Emerald, ruby and sapphire price per carat separately from diamond, so a sapphire halo does not inherit a diamond rate.

Grade adjustments, if you use them

An optional plus or minus per clarity, cut or colour grade — VVS +15, Excellent +10, SI1 −10. Applies to the centre and large stones only, never to melee.

Preview impact before you save

See how many prices a rate change would move, and which products move most, while it is still only a number on a form.

Per-product answers

Asked once per piece, in the language you already use on the bench.

Weigh one piece in one metal

The weight in every other metal is derived for you, and any of them can be corrected by hand. One trip to the scale instead of eleven.

Melee, gemstone and large stones

Melee as total carats, coloured gemstones as carats, and large stones priced individually by size — each carrying its own clarity, cut and colour.

Centre-stone size pricing

Recognises your existing Carat / Diamond Size / Diamond Weight option and prices each size from its own band — including the extra gold a larger centre needs.

Setup: the option name must contain Carat, Diamond Weight or Diamond Size, and each value must start with the carat number (1.00 ct — not 6.5 mm, not “Half carat”).

Length and chain weight

Record which length the weight was taken at and what the chain weighs. Other lengths scale from it, and “pendant only” leaves the chain out of the price.

Sold as a pair

For earrings, enter one and both are priced. No doubling in your head, and no forgetting to.

Overrides for the exceptions

A markup override and a was-price percentage per product, for the piece that does not follow the rule.

CSV in, CSV out

Export the product answers, fill them in a spreadsheet with your team, import them back. Useful the first time you set up a large catalogue.

Updating the store

Old price beside new price

Nothing is written before you have seen the whole list. The preview is the product, not a courtesy.

A safety limit you choose

Hold jumps over 10%, 25% or 50% — or no holds at all. Anything past your limit waits for your approval instead of going live.

A whole run, or a handful

Re-price everything a run covers when the rate moves, or pick individual products when only one supplier's stock changed.

Undo, to the exact previous price

Every run is recorded and can be rolled back. You never have to remember what a price used to be.

Re-price a product when it is edited

Correct a weight or change the stones and the price follows within about half a minute. Your safety limit still applies.

Run history

What ran, when, how many products it touched — and a roll-back button beside each one.

Bracelet sold in several lengths6.5″, 7″, 7.5″. The weight, and which length you weighed. Every other length scaled from it — metal and stones together.
Pendant on its ownPendant only, no chain. The pendant's weight and stones. Every metal. A “Pendant Only” option correctly leaves the chain out.
Pendant with a chain, in several chain lengthsPendant + 16″ / 18″ / 20″ chain. The pendant weight, the chain's own weight, and the length each was measured at. The pendant plus the chain, with the chain scaling by its own length — gold chains add their grams as-is, silver and platinum convert.

For the second shape, set up your option once: the option name must contain Carat, Diamond Weight or Diamond Size, and each value must start with the carat number (1.00 ct — not 6.5 mm, not “Half carat”). MetalIQ does not add a size picker to your product page; it prices the option you already have, and your theme's own selector does the rest.

Ring-size variants are handled as-is: each size takes the price MetalIQ works out for its metal. Necklaces and bracelets are the ones that scale — tell MetalIQ which length you weighed and every other length prices itself from it.

Show a shopper why the piece costs what it costs

The privacy promise

Your cost model never leaves the app

This is worth saying plainly, because it is the part a competitor could read if it were built carelessly. The storefront only ever receives finished display figures — the four numbers a shopper sees. Your rate sheet, your touch percentages, your making charges, your stone rates and your markups are never sent to the theme, so they cannot be read from a browser, a page source, or a network tab.

Never sent anywhere

  • Touch percentage per karat

And while the extension is off, nothing renders at all — your storefront looks exactly as it does today.

A jeweller's first question is never whether the app is cheap. It is whether software is going to change prices without asking. The answer has to be the same on every plan, so it is: anything that decides whether a price is correct sits in all four. Only scale, automation, the storefront display and how you reach us are gated.

In every plan, including Free

Which plan am I on?

No jeweller counts their variants, so here is the arithmetic. A variant is every option combination on a product — each metal, each centre size, each length.

11 metals × 6 chain lengths = 66 variants

That is one pendant. About 150 products like it comes to roughly 10,000 variants.

Billing questions

Shopify does. The charge appears on your normal Shopify invoice, with the rest of your apps.

No. Update your rates as often as you like — plans are sized by catalogue, not by how often you use it.

FAQ

The questions jewellers actually ask

If yours is not here, write to us — info@dcpltechnology.com.

No. Nothing is written to your store until you press update. You see every new price beside its old one first, and jumps past your safety limit are held for approval rather than written.

There is one automatic case, and it is worth knowing about: if you edit a product's weight or stones, its price follows within about half a minute — because you have just changed the piece. Your safety limit still applies there too.

Every run is recorded and can be rolled back. Roll it back and your prices return to exactly what they were before that run — you do not need to have written the old numbers down.

Then correct the rate or the product answer that caused it, and run the preview again.

No. If you switch on the storefront display, it receives finished display figures only — metal value, making charge, stones, total.

Your rate sheet, touch percentages, making percentages, stone rates, grade adjustments and markups are never sent to the theme, so they cannot be read from a browser. And with the display switched off, nothing renders at all.

You do not have to. Grades are recorded against the product, not as Shopify variants, and they are optional. Leave them empty and the stone prices from your carat rate alone.

If you do use them, the adjustment applies to the centre and large stones only — never to melee.

Enter rates in any of several supported currencies, per gram or per troy ounce — whichever way your supplier quotes them. What MetalIQ stores does not change; only what you type and what you read on screen.

Stores in India, the UK, the US and the Gulf all work the same way.

Lab-grown, moissanite and natural are priced separately, each with its own rates, because they differ by roughly tenfold. One rate for all three would be wrong for all three.

Mark the product as sold as a pair and enter one earring. Both are priced. It is the one place where doubling by hand causes the most mistakes, so the app does it.

No. Only the rate. The per-piece answers — weight, stones, length, pair — are entered once and stay. Your daily routine is: type the rate, read the preview, press update.

Your prices stay exactly as they are. Nothing is reverted, nothing is changed, and the storefront display stops rendering. Uninstalling is not a price event.

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Ring-size variants are handled as-is: each size takes the price MetalIQ works out for its metal.

Length is the measurement that does scale. Tell MetalIQ which length you weighed a necklace or bracelet at, and every other length prices itself from it.

Keep building the size choice in Shopify the way you already do — one variant per size. MetalIQ finds that option and prices each size from its own carat band, adding the extra gold a larger centre needs, once you have told it which centre was in the piece when you weighed it.

Two things must be true for it to see the option: the option name must contain Carat, Diamond Weight or Diamond Size, and each value must start with the carat number1.00 ct, not 6.5 mm and not “Half carat”.

MetalIQ does not add a size picker or a ring builder to your product page. Your theme's own selector keeps doing that; MetalIQ makes sure the price behind each option is right.

What to have ready before you set MetalIQ up

None of this is difficult, but it is much easier gathered in one sitting than hunted down field by field. Tick as you go — the list is kept in this browser, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Your figures

The cost model you already work to. Entered once, and then only the rate changes day to day.

In your Shopify admin

Three things on the store side. The first one is the most common cause of a wrong price, so it is worth checking before you start.

Send it to us and we will check it

Rather than guess, send us what you have — even half of it. We will tell you what is missing and what your first run would look like.

About

MetalIQ is built by DCPL Technology Private Limited

We build one thing: software that prices metal-based jewellery correctly. MetalIQ is that work, made for Shopify stores.

What we build

A jewellery price is not a number someone chose. It is metal weight times purity times today's rate, plus making, plus stones, plus your markup — and it changes every morning. MetalIQ does that arithmetic across every combination of a piece and then stops, so that a person decides what reaches the store.

We work in the trade's own terms — touch, making, melee, centre stone, hallmark — because a tool that renames them is a tool you have to translate before you can trust it.

MetalIQ is not yet listed on the Shopify App Store. Stores are being onboarded through early access, one at a time, so that setup gets a real conversation rather than a help article.

What MetalIQ receives from your store

When you install MetalIQ on a Shopify store, it reads and writes the product and pricing information it needs to do its job: products, variants, prices, compare-at prices, collections, tags, and the store's currency and locale settings. It also stores the figures you enter yourself — your rate sheet, touch percentages, making charges, stone rates, category markups, price floors, per-product answers, and the history of pricing runs.

MetalIQ does not need and does not request your customers' personal information, orders, or payment details.

What the storefront receives

If you switch on the optional storefront display, the theme receives finished display figures only — metal value, making charge, stones, total, and the rates you have chosen to show. Your cost model is never sent to the storefront. While the display is switched off, nothing is rendered and nothing is sent.

Why we hold it

To calculate prices, to show you a preview before anything is written, to write the prices you approve, to keep a run history so a run can be rolled back, and to answer your support messages.

Retention

Your rate sheet, product answers and run history are kept while the app is installed so that rollback remains possible. Retention period after uninstall — to be confirmed by the owner. Uninstalling MetalIQ does not change your prices; they remain exactly as they were.

Service providers

MetalIQ runs on Shopify's platform and on hosting and infrastructure services engaged by DCPL Technology Private Limited. Hosting provider, region and any sub-processors — to be listed by the owner before launch.

Cookies on this website

This website stores one preference in your browser: the light or dark theme you selected. There is no advertising or third-party analytics script on this site. If analytics is added later, this section must be updated.

Your rights

You may ask us what data we hold about your store, ask for a copy, ask for corrections, or ask us to delete it. Email info@dcpltechnology.com from an address associated with the store and we will respond. Statutory response window — to be confirmed by the owner for the jurisdictions served.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date. Material changes will be sent to the email address on the store's account.

Terms of service

Last updated: date to be set by the owner before launch. This page is a working draft prepared for review by DCPL Technology Private Limited and is not legal advice.

Who you are contracting with

These terms are between you, the merchant, and DCPL TECHNOLOGY PRIVATE LIMITED, 1011, Silver Trade Center, Nr. VIP Circle, Utran, Mota Varachha, Surat — 394105, Gujarat, India (“we”, “us”). By installing or using MetalIQ you accept them.

What MetalIQ does

MetalIQ calculates prices for products in your Shopify store from the rates and cost figures you enter, shows you those prices for review, and writes them to your store when you instruct it to. It also offers an optional storefront display that you enable in your own theme.

Your prices remain yours

You are responsible for the rates, touch percentages, making charges, stone rates and markups you enter, and for reviewing the preview before instructing an update. MetalIQ performs arithmetic on the figures you supply; it does not set your prices for you, and it does not source or verify market rates on your behalf.

The safety limit, held approvals and rollback exist to reduce the cost of a mistake. They are not a guarantee that no incorrect price can ever be published.

Acceptable use

Use MetalIQ only on stores you are authorised to administer. Do not attempt to interfere with the service, circumvent its limits, or resell access to it without our written agreement.

Fees

Fees, billing cycle, taxes, refund terms and the billing mechanism are to be confirmed by the owner before launch. No charge applies to a store unless it has been told the amount in advance and has agreed to it.

Availability

We work to keep MetalIQ available and correct, but it is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. Shopify's platform, your theme and your internet connection are outside our control. Any uptime or support commitment — to be confirmed by the owner.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit or lost margin arising from a price that was published. Liability cap — to be set by the owner with legal advice.

Intellectual property

MetalIQ, its name and its interface belong to DCPL Technology Private Limited. Your store data, product information and cost model remain yours.

Ending the agreement

You may uninstall MetalIQ at any time from your Shopify admin. When you do, your prices stay exactly as they are — nothing is reverted or changed — and the storefront display stops rendering. We may suspend the service for non-payment, once fees exist, or for use that breaches these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Surat, Gujarat have jurisdiction. Confirm this clause with legal advice for the jurisdictions you sell into.

Relationship with Shopify

MetalIQ is an app for Shopify stores, built by DCPL Technology Private Limited. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Shopify Inc.
